This is about life in a place that is perpetually between places in most people’s journeys. Some people pass through in order to reach somewhere else – it’s middle England so it’s on the way to everywhere. Some people come here for business, and treat it as a signpost on the way to their eventual goals. Some people come here to take what doesn’t belong to them, as there’s a lot of money in a place that leads to other places. Very occassionally, somebody comes to live, and give themselves to this place, and for them I feel most sorry of all. So this is about life, my life, which has mostly been here, but this isn’t the place I was going to when I started my journey, and nor is it where I intend it to end. In the meantime, you, like I can pass through on your way to a different destination, somewhere more appealing a little further down the road.
